Insect Overview
The Elm Leaf Beetle is a destructive insect that primarily affects elm trees. The larvae of the beetle feed on the leaves, causing defoliation and weakening the tree. Severe infestations can lead to reduced tree vitality and even death if untreated over multiple seasons.
Elm Leaf Beetles thrive in the summer, with the adult beetles laying eggs on the underside of elm leaves. Once the larvae hatch, they begin feeding on the foliage, leading to significant damage. Early identification of an infestation is crucial to minimizing the damage caused by these pests.
Left unchecked, Elm Leaf Beetles can lead to weakened tree growth, increased vulnerability to diseases, and even tree death. Proper treatment is essential for protecting elm trees from long-term damage.
Symptoms
- Holes or notches in elm tree leaves.
- Defoliation in mid to late summer.
- Yellowing or browning of leaves.
Recommended Treatment
Apply Vivid-II as a treatment to control Elm Leaf Beetle infestations. Follow the application instructions carefully for dosage based on tree size and pest severity. Apply the treatment during early spring when the larvae are most vulnerable.
Treated Species
Many tree species may be affected by Elm Leaf Beetle Treatment Guide. However, Vivid II is only approved for use on the following trees per the EPA product label.
- Ornamental Trees (including forest, ornamental, non-crop-bearing trees, and woody shrubs)
