Insect Overview
Lace Bugs are small, sap-sucking insects that primarily affect the underside of leaves, particularly on trees and shrubs such as azaleas, lilacs, and sycamores. These insects are named for the delicate, lace-like appearance of their wings. Lace bugs feed on plant sap, which weakens the plant and causes damage to the leaves.
Lace Bug infestations are often noticed when the foliage begins to show signs of yellowing or speckling, caused by their feeding. The damage they cause can lead to leaf drop and can weaken the overall health of the tree or shrub, making it more susceptible to other pests and diseases.
Timely treatment and control are essential to prevent significant damage. Regular monitoring of susceptible plants, especially during the growing season, can help detect infestations early and reduce the risk of severe damage.
Symptoms
- Yellowing or stippling of leaves.
- Brown or black spots on leaves.
- Premature leaf drop.
