Insect Overview

Mites are tiny arachnids that feed on plant tissues by piercing cells and sucking out the contents, causing damage to leaves, stems, and fruit. There are different species of mites, with some targeting specific tree species and others affecting a broader range of plants. These pests are often difficult to detect due to their small size and can cause significant damage if not controlled early.

Mites are most active during the warm months when they reproduce quickly. They thrive in dry, dusty conditions, often infesting trees in gardens, orchards, and fields. Left untreated, a mite infestation can result in leaf damage, fruit deformities, and overall weakening of the tree.

Timely detection and treatment of mites are crucial for maintaining the health of your trees and preventing severe infestations. Regular monitoring of plants is necessary to catch early signs of damage before they spread throughout the tree.

Symptoms

  • Yellowing, speckled leaves with a bronze or grayish hue.
  • Visible webbing on the leaves or branches of trees.
  • Premature leaf drop or deformed leaves.
  • Stunted growth and reduced vigor of the tree or plant.

Recommended Treatment

Apply Vivid-II as a treatment for mites. Follow the application instructions for proper dosage based on tree size and pest severity. Early spring is an ideal time to apply the treatment, as it targets the mites before they can reproduce extensively. Regular applications may be necessary to fully eliminate the infestation.

Treated Species

Many tree species may be affected by Mites Treatment Guide. However, Vivid II is only approved for use on the following trees per the EPA product label.

  • Ornamental Trees (including forest, ornamental, non-crop-bearing trees, and woody shrubs)
